Students enrolled in the following graduate programs participate in a mandatory cooperative education (co-op) experience:
These programs include dedicated support from an Advisor, who assists with:
- Co-op preparation and strategy
- Resume and portfolio development
- Interview coaching
- Employer connections and job search guidance
- Co-op registration and program requirements
Students complete the graduate co-op course, COOP 6500, as part of their program requirements. Your assigned Advisor will work closely with you throughout the co-op process, providing support from preparation and search through completion of your experience.
Graduate programs outside of Architecture and Bioengineering do not require a co-op experience. Students in these programs pursue internships, research opportunities, industry projects, or other forms of professional experience that align with their academic and career development.
Career advising and internship oversight for these students are provided by their graduate faculty advisor and a designated representative from their Academic School. These individuals are responsible for supporting students’ career development and instructing the graduate internship course, INTN 6000.
While students in these programs are not assigned a Co-op & Career Advisor, they are encouraged to utilize Co-ops & Careers resources, attend employer recruiting events and career fairs, and access opportunities posted through WITworks.

Yes. Graduate students can access WITworks to search and apply for jobs, internships, co-ops (where applicable), and employer recruiting events.
Can graduate students meet with a career advisor?
Students in graduate programs with a required co-op are assigned a dedicated Advisor. Students in all other graduate programs receive career advising and internship support through their graduate faculty advisor and designated Academic School representative.

No. COOP6500 is a tuition-free course that maintains students’ enrollment status at full-time. Students may be responsible for housing, health insurance, and meal plan costs during a co-op semester.
Can graduate students complete an internship?
Yes. Many graduate students complete internships, research experiences, or industry-based projects related to their field of study.
Is an internship required?
No, co-ops are required for two programs (see Graduate Programs with a Required Co-op above). Students should consult their academic department for specific curriculum requirements.
What course is associated with graduate internships?
Typically, pursuing an internship is an optional part of the program for those not mentioned above. Students participating in an approved graduate internship should register for INTN 6000: Graduate Internship Course.
Can I take an internship instead of classes for one semester?
Students are expected to make normal progress toward degree completion. In most cases, taking an internship in place of coursework for a semester is not recommended, as required courses may not be offered every term. This could cause student to get out of sequence with their academic plan and delay graduation. It may also have implications for financial aid eligibility, visa status for international students, and other academic requirements. Students considering this option should consult with their Graduate Advisor and relevant campus offices before making any changes to their enrollment plans.
Does the graduate internship course carry a fee?
No. INTN6000 is a tuition-free course that maintains students’ enrollment status at full-time. Students may be responsible for housing, health insurance, and meal plan costs during their internship semester.

Can international graduate students participate in internships or co-ops?
Yes. International graduate students may be eligible to participate in co-ops, internships, research experiences, and other forms of experiential learning, provided they obtain the appropriate employment authorization and meet all institutional and immigration requirements.
What is CPT?
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is work authorization that may allow eligible international students to participate in internships, co-ops, or other educationally related employment experiences that are connected to their academic program. Students must complete one academic year of study to be eligible for CPT.
What is OPT?
Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a form of employment authorization that may allow eligible international students to gain work experience in their field of study before or after graduation. Students must complete one academic year of study to be eligible for OPT. Student’s in a STEM-designated program are also permitted to participate in an OPT STEM extension, providing an additional 24 months to the 12 that are allowed through OPT. Who can advise me about CPT, OPT, or visa-related employment questions?

No. While Wentworth provides access to career resources, employer recruiting opportunities, networking events, and experiential learning programs, employment outcomes depend on a variety of factors including academic preparation, experience, market conditions, and employer hiring needs.
