BIPOC Students

Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) are anyone who identifies as Black, Native American, Native Hawaiian, Alaskan Native, Desi, Asian, Pacific Islander, Chicanx or Latinx. The perspectives and experiences these folks bring to a work environment are inherently valuable, though the journey to success may be difficult due to systemic barriers created and upheld by white supremacy. Students and alumni who identify as BIPOC (or any of the identities therein) will find below a wealth of resources to help them on the road to finding meaningful co-ops and careers.

Support at Wentworth

BIPOC students do not grow up with the same lived experience and culture, but there are some common challenges that they may face during the job search process and while in the workplace. BIPOC students may need support with identifying whether or not a company is inclusive, addressing harassment or discrimination in the workplace, and building a network where they may not have one. Additionally, employers may seem eager to hire diverse talent, but many are not prepared to do so.

Talk with us about:

  • Expanding your network or building a professional network from the ground up.
  • How to determine whether or not a company or workplace is inclusive.
  • Harassment, discrimination, and unconscious bias in the workplace and interview process.
  • Presenting your race or ethnicity in the application process.
  • Sharing involvement in cultural groups on- or off-campus on your resume.

On-Campus Resources and Communities:

The main on-campus resource for BIPOC students is the Center for Diversity and Global Engagement. Check out their website for office hours, upcoming events, and resources. There are a number of cultural and identity-based professional groups on-campus that we recommend students get involved with – more information, social media, and meeting times can be found on Leopard Spot.
