Job Description – R&D Engineering Co-op
As an R&D Engineering Co-op for Advanced Endoscopic Technologies (AET) on the product development team, you will work with a close-knit team of engineers to develop new products for gastroenterology. CONMED is devoted to providing differentiated products that help physicians achieve superior outcomes for their patients.
Your role will be to support products in development from the initial design phase to the launch of the product. Co-ops on this team will develop an understanding of the product development process through hands-on application of engineering concepts including test method development and validation, Solidworks design, 3D printing, design controls, verification and validation testing, business concepts, and prototyping.
In addition to development, you will support post-launch engineering projects. These projects are dynamic and include working with both internal and external partners to ensure continued supply of the products we sell today. Our current portfolio of products includes patient monitoring products and both disposable and capital products for endoscopy.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct and support product verification testing
- Design test and product specifications based on benchtop testing and clinician feedback
- Work with Sales and Marketing teams to define customer needs, develop ergonomic solutions and gain feedback
- Review test specifications, procedures and process instructions
- Author and/or assist in the creation of new test methods and protocols
- Work in a team to support engineering efforts, propose and implement technical solutions
- Work with design, manufacturing, and quality engineers to bring novel concepts from idea to production
- Develop fixturing/instrumentation to execute tests using injection molding, additive manufacturing (3D printing, metal laser sintering) using 3D modeling (SolidWorks)
- Research and test new equipment and materials for concept development & prototyping
- Learn key GI anatomy and surgical practices in minimally invasive flexible endoscopy
