Job Title: Associate Product Engineer
Reports To: Engineering Manager

Summary: The Associate Product Engineer supports the Palmer Foundry Product Development,
Engineering, and Sales teams and is accountable for the complete product life cycle including quoting,
casting design, process routing, establishing process control limits and ensuring on time delivery.
Primary Responsibilities: The Associate Product Engineer will participate heavily in the new product
introduction phase for designing and implementing a robust casting process. The Associate Product
Engineer will also support internal and external technical inquiries regarding castings in production.
The Associate Product Engineer will:
• Perform casting gating system design using 3D CAD (SolidWorks) for aluminum sand castings,
including filling and solidification analysis (MAGMASoft) of new and existing products.
• Review drawing and 3D models associated from an incoming request for quote within 48 hours.
Determine castability and our appropriate casting process. Disseminate this information
internally to our quoting team and to outside vendors (IE pattern shops).
• Communicate technically with customers and outside vendors.
• Analyze specifications from customers’ blueprints and 3D models. Estimate processing times for
given operations to assist quoting effort of new castings. Work with the Quality, Engineering and
Sales teams to ensure all drawing requirements are met during new product development life
cycles.
• Support production with any engineering inquiries.
• Create technical process documentation for new and existing products based on customers’
design requirements.
• Define project/cost estimate scope, timeline, phases, establish boundaries for estimates/time
requirements needed to coordinate with production to meet deadlines and customer
requirements.
• Assist or lead mechanical/process design, including product specific fixtures/tools (IE: checking
fixtures, assembly aids, testing fixtures).
• Perform 3D dimensional analysis comparing point cloud data (a .STP file generated from our inhouse
laser scanner) to customer-provided CAD models.
• Collect and monitor data, measure and perform scientific data analysis and report on progress.
• Participate in Lean Six Sigma process improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties or assignments as directed by management.
Skills/Key Competencies:
• Product design.
• Operating knowledge and experience of SolidWorks, design software and engineering tools.
• Blueprint reading and writing (knowledge of GD&T preferred).
• Quoting/obtaining & using cost data for estimation and customer quotes.
• Scientific analysis/data analysis and benchmarking.
• Project management.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, outside agencies,
business partners and customers.
• Proficient with computer programs (Microsoft Business Suite) and a working knowledge of new
technology.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or other related
engineering field.
• SolidWorks experience strongly preferred.
• 0-3 Years Experience in design, manufacturing, cost estimating, planning, scheduling, and other
areas of project controls in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Competencies:
• Casting industry experience.
• Knowledge or experience running FEM or FDM simulations.
• Knowledge or experience in ISO-9001, AS9100 industries.
• Knowledge or experience utilizing ERP systems.
