Intro to Co-op
Intro to Co-op is a course that teaches Wentworth students the foundational skills necessary to search for and complete a Cooperative Educational (co-op) experience, a part of the academic curriculum. Classes are designed and instructed by Co-op & Career Advisors. It is a zero-credit, pass/fail class that is FREE for all students.
What topics are covered?
Topics include resumes, job searching, interviewing, and how to be successful on co-op. Resources will be available on cover letter writing, portfolio creation, networking (including how to use LinkedIn), and identity in industry.
Why should I enroll in Intro to Co-op?
Students preparing for their first co-op (optional or mandatory) should register for Intro to Co-op as this class gives students a competitive advantage as they begin to search for, apply to, and interview for co-ops related to their major. These tools and skills will be essential for obtaining future co-ops, when applying to entry level positions, and throughout the entirety of students’ careers.
When should I take Intro to Co-op?
Intro to Co-op is only taught in the fall and spring semesters. Most students should take the course 1 semester prior to COOP 3000 (Optional Co-op) or 1 or 2 semesters prior to the first mandatory co-op (COOP 3500).
Architecture majors should take Intro to Co-op the fall of their sophomore year, just before their first co-op in the spring.
How do students register?
Students can register for Intro to Co-op the same way they would register for any academic class – on Leopardweb under COOP2500. Select the class that is taught by your Co-op & Career Advisor. See a listing of advisors here: https://coopsandcareers.wit.edu/advising-team/.
