The Advancing Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (ATLAS) Center is Wentworth’s hub for faculty development, teaching innovation, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. We are dedicated to empowering educators with the tools, resources, and community needed to elevate their innovative teaching practices, explore hands-on, inclusive pedagogical approaches, and contribute to scholarly work in education. By supporting faculty and staff educators, we strengthen the foundation of transformative learning experiences for students at Wentworth.
The ATLAS Digital Accessibility Co-op student will directly contribute to advancing institution’s strategic pillar of inclusive excellence by supporting ATLAS’s campaign to support faculty in making their course materials digital accessible, aligned with Wentworth’s Digital Accessibility Policy. The Digital Accessibility Co-op will focus on hands-on creative problem-solving and resource development. You will not only learn about technical side of implementing digital accessibility practices but also gain a unique window into the teaching and learning process by working directly with faculty to advance their work and remove barriers to student success.
You will collaborate with ATLAS team members to make course materials digitally accessible using a variety of available tools, including Brightspace, Panorama, MathPix, the Microsoft Office suite, and LaTeX. You will also support ATLAS ongoing efforts to develop educational resources for faculty and other community members.
We are seeking a co-ops with course experience in a variety of disciplines to engage in this work, which will require attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, professionalism, critical thinking, comfort with technology, and a commitment to equity and access.
Digital Accessibility Co-ops will engage in:
- Professional Communication: Interacting with institutional stakeholders and faculty partners.
- Faculty Opt-in Program: Work directly with faculty who have “opted-in” to have ATLAS review and improve their specific course materials for accessibility.
- Course Remediation: Use available tools (e.g. Panorama, Acrobat Pro, Microsoft suite) to bring course materials up to institutional and federal accessibility standards.
- Documentation: Development of creative, effective, and detailed “how-to” guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and tutorial videos for accessibility tools.
- Professional Development: Opportunities to participate in professional development such as attending webinars or local conferences about accessibility. (Dependent on offerings and schedule during the co-op semester).
- Public Presentations: Opportunities to participate in ATLAS-led workshops or events around digital accessibility depending on skill, interest and scheduled programming during the co-op semester.
- Opportunities to collaborate on other ATLAS team projects.
- [Possible] Accessibility How-To Guides: Create a library of easy-to-follow resources for faculty on making documents, videos, and web content accessible.
- [Possible] Marketing & Outreach: Develop student-facing resources on Brightspace in collaboration with offices such as Accessibility Services.
