About Us

Union Office Interiors (UOI) is a leader in workplace architecture, space planning, and commercial furniture solutions. We collaborate with organizations across New England to create practical, impactful, and beautifully designed work environments. Our team is known for its deep design expertise, strong client partnerships, and a collaborative, supportive internal culture.

We believe great spaces start with listening—and we bring that mindset to both our clients and our team.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Design Intern (Co‑op) to join our design and project team for a semester‑long or multi‑term program. This role is ideal for a college student studying Interior Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, or a related field who is eager to gain hands‑on experience in workplace design, space planning, and project delivery.

As a Design Intern, you will support real client projects, assist our design team with space layouts, furniture specifications, and visual presentations, and learn the full process from concept to installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist designers with space planning, layout development, and test‑fit drawings.
  • Create visual presentations, mood boards, and finish palettes for client meetings.
  • Support furniture specifications and product selections across multiple manufacturers.
  • Update drawings, plans, and project documents with direction from senior designers.
  • Help prepare installation drawings, floor plans, and punch‑list documentation.
  • Participate in client meetings, internal design reviews, and vendor presentations.
  • Conduct research on furniture solutions, materials, trends, and workplace strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, sales staff, and installers to ensure cohesive project execution.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college program in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required; familiarity with CET, Revit, SketchUp, or Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Strong visual and spatial design skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management abilities.
  • Willingness to learn, collaborate, ask questions, and take initiative.
  • An interest in workplace design, furniture systems, and space planning.

What You’ll Gain

  • Real‑world experience contributing to commercial workplace design projects.
  • Exposure to leading furniture brands and manufacturers.
  • Mentorship from a team with decades of combined experience.
  • Opportunities to build portfolio‑ready work.
  • A friendly, supportive environment that values teamwork, creativity, and continuous learning.

  • Location: Wilmington, MA (primary office)
  • Schedule: Full‑time co‑op (preferred) or part‑time depending on academic requirements
  • Duration: 4–6 months (flexible based on school program structure)
  • Compensation: Paid co‑op position
