Primary Responsibilities: This is a significant, high-impact role. ● Reporting to Sponge’s CTO the inaugural Mechanical Fabrication Technician / Senior Mechanical Fabrication Technician will fabricate lab, pilot and commercial scale direct air capture equipment. ● Work with Sponge’s engineers to understand, review and review P&IDs, Equipment, Line, Instrument and Valve Lists General Assembly, Plumbing Run and Spool Drawings and produce As Built drawings and complete fabrication and assembly check lists. ● Select and order parts from Bills of Materials, and Equipment, Line, Instrument and Valve Lists. Follow materials receipt procedures and complete inventory counts. ● Order and maintain a sufficient inventory of shop consumables and hardware. ● Organize and maintain the inventory, shop and fabrication operations to ensure cleanliness, quality, safety and efficiency. ● Support lab and pilot operations by following Standard Operating Procedures, read instrument values, perform standardized laboratory tests and complete round checklists and follow Standard Operating Procedure to formulate textile finishing solution batches. ● Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience: ● Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance or similar subject or work experience fabricating, operating or maintaining process equipment or machinery. ● 5 years or more of relevant work experience.
Skills & Attitude: ● Ability to operate hand and powered tools to fabricate frame and skids comprised of strut and other systems. sponge.co ● Ability to accurately fabricate plumbing run and spools comprised of metal and polymeric piping, tubing and components with threaded, flanged, compression and other connections. ● Welding and CNC machining skills are desirable, but not required. ● Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures to operate lab and pilot scale equipment and perform standardized lab testing, accurately reading and recording instrument values, completing round check lists, and ingredient weighing and mixing of textile finishing solutions. ● Willingness and ability to travel in the US occasionally as required. Physical Requirements: This position is located in an industrial setting. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for extended periods.
