What You’ll Get Out of This Opportunity

 

The Assistant Estimator participates in the preparation of final pricing and competitive bid efforts alongside either an Estimator or Senior Estimator. This role performs quantity takeoff’s, subcontractor/vendor bid solicitation and handles portions of preparing CM, Lump Sum and GMP Proposals. On trades delegated to the Assistant Estimator, the work includes receiving subcontractor and vendor proposals they are analyzed and compared for accuracy and completeness. Qualifications are prepared, and in some cases value engineering is performed. Assistant Estimators need to be professional, detail-oriented, inquisitive, and organized. They also must have outstanding communication and organizational skills.

 

What You’ll Do

 

  1. Attend all internal project related meetings and reviews to ensure work efforts      are in alignment with what is being delivered to the client.
  2. Ability to put together a comprehensive and competitive bid on jobs <$1M.
  3. Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation in the preparation of estimates on assigned
  4. Performs detailed takeoffs.
  5. Determine and maintain a subcontractor/vendor list, solicit subcontractors and suppliers for bids, and ensure established coverage goals for each scope of work they are responsible for are met.
  6. Review the bid documents for alternates, allowances, and bid items in order to forward information to the appropriate Subcontractors and Vendors during the bid period.
  7. Coordinate and attend project site
  8. Prepare Web Based RFP with the Marketing Team.
  9. Creation of detailed estimates in Sage Estimating. (Sage Estimating experience not required)
  10. Assist in the preparation of instructions to bidders, scopes of work, bid form and other project specific bid solicitation information as required or delegated by the Estimator.
  11. For specific trades delegated by the Estimator, receive, organize, and analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals to ensure complete scope of work is covered, risk is covered/communicated, and proposal is complete.
  12. Perform quantity take-offs and unit pricing to develop estimates on a trade by trade
  13. Take the lead in the preparation of clarifications and assumptions, allowances, & exclusions which identifies and communicates document discrepancies, missed scope, deviations from documents, and the approach to the project.
  14. Maintains all project specific files on server.
  15. Track Subcontractor solicitation and participation. Monitoring the coverage per project per trade.
  16. As directed by the Estimator evaluate the documents and design to prepare proactive cost savings options and accurate
  17. Utilize Planswift, Sage Estimating, BuildingConnected and other selected future software used in the estimating
  18. Ensure all new subcontractors and vendors information are added to BuildingConnected, including participation of bid
  19. Build net-promoter relationships with subcontractors and owners.
  20. Actively participate in industry, client, and community relation events to enhance company image and solicit new subcontractors while seeking new opportunities for
  21. Participate in site visits to projects as appropriate.
  22. Able to communicate via phone and email with clients and subcontractors.
  23. Participate in hand-off meeting with Ops.

  5. Possess judgment to know when to appropriately escalate issues up the chain of
  6. A strong sense of urgency and self-initiative. Able to quickly analyze and react to issues as they occur.
  7. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to act confidently and decisively.
  8. Ability to read and interpret construction documents, safety rules, and landlord tenant requirements.
  9. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Strong organizational skills.
  11. Proficiency with MS Office, specifically Excel, Sage, BuildingConnected, AutoDesk Takeoff, and Bluebeam or related softwares.
