Role Overview
We’re seeking a hands-on, thoughtful Industrial Design Intern to help bring clarity, usability, and elegance to robotic systems used by scientists. You’ll work closely with mechanical engineers, software developers, and product leads to prototype form factors, interfaces, and user experiences for scientific tools.
This internship is perfect for a designer excited by functional aesthetics, human-centered design, and the impact of robotics in life sciences.
ResponsibilitiesDesign & Prototyping:
- Develop concepts for robotic enclosures, UI panels, and lab equipment form factors
- Create sketches, low- and high-fidelity CAD models, and physical prototypes
- Design with manufacturability, modularity, and ergonomics in mind
User Research & Feedback:
- Translate user needs into tangible design solutions
- Support usability testing and iterate designs based on scientist feedback
Collaboration:
- Work cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and software teams
- Ensure visual and functional consistency across system components
Qualifications
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field
- Proficiency in design tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, KeyShot, Adobe Suite
- Strong design sense with a focus on function, user experience, and real-world constraints
- Interest in scientific tools, robotics, or lab environments is a plus
