MetroWest Engineering, Inc. (MWE) is a highly respected civil engineering firm located in Framingham, MA. We offer services in the areas of land surveying, site analysis and design, hydrologic and drainage engineering, wetland science and project permitting.

Although our firm is small, we have a strong reputation for delivering high quality engineering and land surveying services and proving highly successful services in gaining the multitude of local and state permits required for construction projects in today’s complex world.

Our typical projects include custom, high-end residential homes, private schools, and small commercial projects. We provide land surveying services both in support of our design and permitting work, as well as a stand-alone offering.

The firm has been in business for 40-years, led by Robert Gemma the founder and as well as a Registered Professional Engineer and land Surveyor. Our full-time staff, which includes registered land surveyors and engineers, all have been part of the MWE team for 20 or more years.

We are committed to excellence and strive to deliver the highest quality civil engineering and land surveying services in the industry.

Our Need for Strong Interns

We seek high quality interns for two major company goals:

  1. To help us meet the demand for our services and continue to provide high quality work on a timely basis
  2. To identify and groom the next generation of leaders to take our firm into future

What we seek in an Intern

We seek interns with the following characteristics and interests:

  1. A strong interest in civil engineering and land surveying as a profession and a desire to pursue professional excellence
  2. Individuals with curiosity who wish to learn what makes a project, a business or an individual successful
  3. Individuals with a strong work ethic, committed to successfully completing their tasks
  4. Individuals who take pride in their work
  5. Team players who enjoy working with others
  6. Good written communication skills
  7. Good people skills and the ability to interact with people outside the firm on a congenial basis
  8. Individuals who enjoy both indoor and outdoor work
  9. Strong CAD skills
  10. Strong mathematical skills

What will an Interns responsibility be?

As an intern as MWE you may serve many roles. These may include the following:

  1. Working on a survey team performing various types of survey work including construction staking and construction as-built survey, topographic surveys and property determination surveys.
  2. Data processing and reduction using surveying software.
  3. Plan preparation using CAD
  4. Assisting in document production of plans and reports
  5. Filing applications and submissions to permitting agencies at town halls
  6. Assisting with percolation testing related to drainage and sewage disposal systems

Whatever tasks you are assigned, you will be working with experienced professionals and having a firsthand opportunity to see how civil engineering is practiced outside of the academic environment of a university.

Is there a long-term benefit with an MWE internship?

MWE hires very few interns. When we identify a person that shares our goals and demonstrates a strong work ethic, we hope to transform the internship into a long-term, successful relationship. We hope to discover the future of our company through successful engagement with interns who are pursing a rewarding professional career.
