Job Summary
The Engineer will provide technical and engineering support to Vehicle Maintenance Department, including Everett, Rail Maintenance, and/or Bus Maintenance. The position will participate as a key member of project management teams responsible for the maintenance, procurement, testing, modification, and overhaul of new and existing vehicles, systems, and equipment
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare technical specifications for vehicles, systems, components, equipment, and related maintenance activities.
- Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, inspections, project reviews, and other engineering evaluations.
- Inspect major systems, components, vehicles, and equipment at vendor, manufacturer, car builder, or MBTA facilities.
- Review engineering drawings, manuals, test procedures, technical documentation, specifications, and proposed modifications.
- Participate in the testing, inspection, troubleshooting, commissioning, and acceptance of vehicles, systems, components, and equipment.
- Assist with planning and coordinating testing, inspections, warranty reviews, technical evaluations, and related project activities.
- Investigate and assist in resolving technical issues, defects, failures, and operational concerns.
- Conduct failure analyses of systems, components, vehicles, and equipment, and document findings and recommended corrective actions.
- Perform warranty evaluations and prepare supporting analyses, findings, and documentation.
- Prepare technical reports, summaries, findings, recommendations, correspondence, and other documentation as required.
- Remain current with the MBTA’s Safety Management System Plan and fulfill all safety responsibilities associated with the position.
- Drive an MBTA or personal vehicle, as authorized, to inspect work sites, vendor locations, facilities, vehicles, systems, and equipment.
- Support investigations involving derailments, major system failures, emergencies, safety events, and other incidents that may affect revenue service.
- Respond to inquiries from customers, vendors, contractors, coworkers, and other stakeholders in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.
- Adhere to all Authority rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and applicable collective bargaining agreements, including EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation requirements.
- Protect the rights and interests of the Authority while developing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, vendors, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Staff the Operations Control Center Vehicle Maintenance desk as assigned, providing technical support, coordination, communication, and incident response for vehicle maintenance issues, service disruptions, emergencies, and other operational needs.
- Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.
