The Aeronautics Department of MassDOT is searching for an Executive Intern to directly support the Aeronautics Director. This role will work alongside department leadership at the highest level to bring strategic improvements to the organization. The Aeronautics division and UASTC are leaders in the evaluation of the utility of drones as they apply to the DOT and throughout all Commonwealth agencies, and remain on the forefront of developing policy, procedures, and best practices for the use of drones to optimize cost, data quality, safety, and timeliness of business operations. This is a Spring internship that runs from January through May.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist in the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of pilot programs
Research funding sources; assist in development of fundraising and preparation of funding proposals to increase available funds to the Drone Program.
Research current drone challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the drone program
Assists in Developing a Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual to MassDOT flying zones, proximity to airports, the number of pilots, and requirements for safety levels. (SOPs include: Training & Standardization Program, Maintenance Program, Aircraft Specific Standardized Checklists, and Flight Log, Risk Assessment, & Flight Operations Brief)
Assists in development of maintenance schedule for all drones owned and operated by MassDOT
Assists in the coordination of the design of drones, payloads, and related accessories
Follows the pilot throughout its lifecycle to ensure continual improvement of the use of the drone based on end user feedback
Translates quantitative analysis into actionable business strategy proposals
Proficient with Microsoft Office with strong skills using Excel
Excellent analytical skills are essential
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Desire to innovate and think creatively
Critical thinking and problem solving abilities
Enrolled in a related Graduate degree program such as Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation Planning, National Security, Public Administration, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, Drone Technology, Project Management, Program Management, etc.
This internship may require travel to the 1 Harborside Drive, Boston, MA location.
