A Co-Op at BPI will provide students with hands-on experience and mentorship from industry professionals.
Project Engineer – Job Description:
Analyzes, evaluates, or determines engineering requirements for specific products or overall structures using prescribed methods. Prepares designs and summaries necessary for engineering drawings and coordinates preparation of design, erection, and fabrication drawings with the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Eng. Tech. with 0-5 years of experience in Precast or Reinforced concrete Structural Design. Computer Skills, Auto Cad, word processing and a working knowledge of spreadsheets.
Schedule:
Week 1: Shadowing Q.C. Inspector.
Co-Op Student will observe pre and post pour inspection of forms and products as well as tensioning operations.
Week 2: Shadowing Q.C. Lab.
Co-Op Student will observe development of mix designs and fresh concrete tests.
Weeks 3 and 4: Tekla (3-D) Training Program.
Co-Op Student will view and navigate through 3-D model, extract information for Engineering purposes and run reports.
Weeks 5 and 6: Detailing of Shop Drawings.
Co-Op Student will create production drawings for fabrication.
Week 7: Design Review Training.
Co-Op Student will review loading requirements from construction documents.
Weeks 8 and 9: Product Designs.
Co-Op Student will create prestressed and non-prestressed component designs using loads from design review.
Week 10: Lateral Design Introduction.
Co-Op Student will review intro and overview of wind and seismic loads on buildings.
Weeks 11 and 12: On Site training.
Co-Op Student will shadow Site Foreman to make observations regarding Safety and help facilitate site logistics (including efficient access of precast loads).
